The general director of Biodiversity of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, María Jesús Rodríguez, has presented the Somiedo Natural Park and several tourism companies of the council with the certificate that accredits their adhesion to the System of Recognition of the Sustainability of Nature Tourism in the Natura 2000 Network. The event, during the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Natura 2000 Network, was attended by the general director of the Natural Environment, David Villar, and the mayor, Belarmino Fernández Fervienza.
Spain was the first country to sign a license agreement with the European Commission for the use of the Natura 2000 Network logo for use within the scope of the System for the Recognition of the Sustainability of Nature Tourism in the Natura 2000 Network. This instrument, implemented in a pioneering manner in the Somiedo Natural Park, provides nature tourism companies with a boost both for the knowledge of the network, which in Asturias represents 30% of its surface area, and for the promotion of sustainable nature tourism that is compatible with the objectives of conserving the natural values of the network.
