6-“Somiedo Walls”: La Bustariega

The climb starts at 650 m of altitude, approximately at km 1.5 of the ascent to the Puerto de San Lorenzo, so, if we start from the beginning of the Puerto, we will have already ridden 1.5 km with an average gradient of over 10% before tackling the “wall”. The village of La Bustariega, one of the most typical and best preserved in Somiedo, is located at an altitude of 1,000 m on the slopes of Pico Monegro and is the starting point of a route that links with the Camín Real de la Mesa (GR-101).

This ascent of 6 km with an average gradient of 5.8% runs along a typical mountain road with an asphalt marked by the harsh weather, has its most demanding part past the village of Valcárcel, with 2 km that include ramps of up to 21% and four spectacular horseshoe curves, and then soften and take us to the Bustariega in a slightly favorable last kilometer that will allow us to catch our breath and enjoy the views.
