The result of generations of traditional livestock management
Somiedo’s livestock fairs enjoy great prestige inside and outside Asturias, due to the quality of the livestock that participates. The best known is that of Our Lady, which is celebrated on September 8 in Santa María del Puertu, where traditionally the cattle are brought down from the summer pastures for sale.
La Pola celebrates the annual livestock fair on April 30, the National Asturiana de los Valles Herd Competition, the first week of September, and the popular “first of November” fair, where farmers adjust their herds for the winter season.
