Fairs and markets
Each parish in Somiedo has its own popular festivals and pilgrimages, as well as livestock fairs and exhibitions that attract visitors and tourists.
A calendar of traditional events throughout the year
In mid-August the “Mercao de Somiedo” is held, a traditional market with more than 30 artisans and traders of all kinds of leather products, jewelry, ceramics, farm products such as honey, exhibitors of sausages and cheeses, bread, artisans of wood, ceramics, etc., and a program of activities including live workshops, traditional music and Asturian chigre.
The first week of September the “Fiestas de Nuestra Señora” are celebrated in La Pola. They are the most important because they are also those of the head of the municipality, and coincide in a big week of celebrations for Somiedo where the famous “Feria del Puertu” is held on September 8, and the National Contest of Asturiana de los Valles flocks.
