3-“Ports of Somiedo”: San Lorenzo
The Puerto de San Lorenzo has already become a mythical mountain stage in the Vuelta Ciclista a España in Asturias, being protagonist in 2006, 2010, 2012 and 2021. This is a climb that runs along a regional road in perfect condition, with departure from the town of La Riera (500 m) and arrival at the top of San Lorenzo (1,347 m) through the villages of Las Morteras and Orderias, with numbers that do justice to its hardness.
Its 10 km of length, with 850 m of positive slope at an average gradient of 8.6%, are clearly divided into three sectors; some very hard first kilometers with average gradients above 10% and ramps of up to 16%, a short break later that will allow us to catch our breath and loosen our legs, and some final kilometers where the average gradient again exceeds 10% in some kilometer and will test us before reaching the top, already on the border with the neighboring council of Teverga, where we can stop to contemplate the breathtaking views.
