4-“Ports of Somiedo”: Viḷḷar de Vildas
The ascent to Viḷḷar de Vildas (860 m.), awarded as Exemplary Village of Asturias in 2004, will take us through one of the main valleys of Somiedo, the valley of Pigüeña. The route offers spectacular views of its hills and mountains along the 12 km length. It has an average gradient of 3.8%, a fact that should not confuse us, because it is a very irregular climb that will take its toll on the cyclist alternating ramps of up to 17% slope with stretches of rest.
We will start from the village of Auguasmestas (410 m), on the border with the council of Belmonte. The road has some irregular asphalt stretches and no lane-dividing road markings, which gives it the charm of a true rural mountain road. We will arrive at the village of Viḷḷar de Vildas after crossing Pigüeña and Corés and seeing the villages of Santuchanu, Robléu or La Reboḷḷḷada. Already in Viḷḷar de Vildas we can refresh ourselves and enjoy the views offered by the village, starting point of the well-known route to the Braña de La Pornacal (PR AS 14-1).
